Back to School Friday Five!

The fastest summer ever is coming to a close, so one last Friday Five before the fall madness begins! I’m sprinkling this one with some pictures of an absolutely adorable family and their cute as a button little boy. Normally, you can’t call an 11 year old boy cute as a button and get away with it, but this one happens to be my nephew so I have free reign to pinch cheeks and make all the embarrassing comments I want! Hooray!:)

Come Together Cards

Not only are these just adorable stationary products, this is a local mom running a business with a VERY smart idea. She’ll hand write and mail the card for you! Birthdays, thank yous, whatever.. pick out a card and tell her the message and check it off your list. Bravo!

Kids in Mind

This is a movie review website that I absolutely live by. You get so much more than two thumbs here, actual specific descriptions of the movie so you can decide if your kids should watch it or not. We’ve all seen a PG movie that went a little far, or watched a PG-13 and wondered later where the bad parts were.. this site catalogs not just “offensive language” but as far as which words, or even “back talking to parents.” If the official listing says “mild nudity” they detail who and why and how it’s framed in the story, so you can really have a good idea beforehand if it’s okay for your family. The best part is that they have thousands of movies, so you can even look up older films if you decide to make it a Blockbuster nights!

Give a Kid a Backpack

As we polish off our new shoes and shiny lunchboxes, it’s important to remember that lots of kids in the US and across the globe aren’t able to afford even the simplest supplies. This is a GREAT organization that seeks to end that problem, or at least make a dent! They provide backpacks filled with school supplies to poor children here and abroad, through donations of supplies or money from people just like you and me! It’s a great lesson to start off the school year!

Nastia Liukin Parade

I’m sure we weren’t the only ones glued to the tv set when our hometown (okay, home metroplex) girl was winning the gold in Beijing, and now it’s time to welcome her home! The city of Parker, TX, is holding a congratulatory parade on Saturday, August 30th at 9am.. it’s sure to be a winner!

Happy last weekend of summer! Hope you have a wonderful first day of school next week!
