Signing off (for now)

Tomorrow morning (early! yawn!) my family and I are heading off for a much-needed vacation to a cabin in the Ozark Mountains.  I will be unavailable until June 9th.. even made an executive decision just this afternoon to leave the laptop at home and instead opt for some thick summer paperbacks I’ve had on my list for some time.  I’m looking forward to a week of reading in the hammock in the woods, splashing in the river with my girls, and all basically accomplishing not a single item off my to-do list other than the one that never seems to make it on there… having fun.

Calls & emails will be returned as soon as my body and brain return to work mode, sometime the week of June 9th.  Hopefully by a much more relaxed, happier me! :)

More peeks!

Like I said.. it’s catchup week!  A few more to ooh and ahh over… it’s been a busy spring!  These cuties happen to be BFFs of my youngest, so I was thrilled to be able to capture their spunk on camera for once… too bad you don’t have audio to hear the giggles too! :)

Oh, hello there!

ariana

Hello faithful bloggers… so sorry for the gaps in posts lately.. look for lots of catchup sneak peeks in the week to come.. starting with this gem from a cutie I first featured months ago when she was just a bump in her mommy’s belly and then as a gorgeous, peaceful newborn. She’s grown into the most expressive little girl with these sparkling blue eyes… can’t wait to share some more!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.. such a wonderful taste of the summer to come!

Whirlwind week

I’m guessing the end of the year is insane for everyone else.. class parties, field trips, awards day.. I feel like I’ve moved into my girls’ schools lately!  I have managed to squeeze in a few sessions.. wish I had time to blog these properly but I know the mommies and daddies out there dying for a sneak peak won’t mind if I just throw up the images and let them ooh and aah as quickly as possible! :)   Hope you all survive the mad rush to summer!

We love moms!

The only thing we at Ann Beck Photography love more than kids are the moms who come with them!  We are thrilled to have a special weekend of Mom & Me little love mini sessions next weekend just for them, to capture that special bond, and let moms finally be in front of the camera, not behind it!  We still have a few spaces left in our Saturday sessions, and plenty of time to book one as the perfect gift for your wife, mom, grandmother, or yourself!

We are so excited about our mom & me minis that we ran a special contest to give a session and $100 in prints to some deserving moms, and our inbox was flooded with fabulous nominations… such a hard choice!  The goal was to pick two winners, but I could only narrow it down to three! Thanks so much to everyone who participated… I wish we could have chosen every single mom!!  For today, though, these are the lucky three, in the words of their loving friends and family who nominated them… please contact me asap to schedule your time!

Kristin Hill

My sister, Kristin Hill, a youth minister’s wife and working mother of three young little girls has long been struggling with severe chronic fatigue, Epstein bar and debilitating migraines for which she has recently started seeking medical care. A true “giver” to friends, family, church and community… (for example) Kristin along with her husband and all three little girls, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike when they themselves had no electricity for 10 days, were busily cleaning up the debris in neighbor’s yards while also helping to feed their friends on the block. Kristin is a talented photographer in her own right but has never had the opportunity or extra finances to have a professional photographer capture her with her family.

Mandy Joyce

She lost her husband to cancer during the summer of 2007 and has done an exceptional job with her 10th grader, 2nd grader, and 1st grader.  On top of facing the challenges of being a single mom, she has macular degeneration of the eyes, has gone back to school (with the help of special equipment so she can see the course materials) in order to earn a degree and get back in the working world, and ALWAYS has a smile on her face.  She is the most uplifting woman I know, and she inspires so many!

Whitney Mock

Mock makes the world a better place no matter where she goes. She’s the kind of friend who makes you want to be better, who helps you become a better woman by gently and lovingly showing you instead of telling you what to do and who loves you just the way you are.  Mock loves her children to the point of tears: as she dropped her 2 preschoolers off on her way to Round Top, she was so guilt ridden because her angelic and sweet baby was a little unsure if Mama leaving for 2 days was a good idea. She was going to miss her babies, of course. But, the tears came because she will do anything to make the world right for those she loves.

Mock is extremely thoughtful and wants no recognition for her good works. She has single handily guaranteed that the potentially worst year for me has been the happiest, most joyful daily celebration. For that, I am forever indebted. For that, she deserves a chance to freeze time and have FABULOUS YOU make it a tangible reminder of how freakin’ awesome she is.

Congratulations to you three… and Happy Mother’s Day to everyone else!

Porkapaloosa 2009

Three girls home from school, all closed for health concerns had me at my wits end.  What’s a mom to do with a bonus spring break, less than a month before school is out for the summer?  Throw a swine flu party, of course!

After coating the house in a lovely shade of pepto-bismol pink, we assembled a not-too-small group of our bestest friends for an all-out hoedown (or should that be HOGdown?) and let the giggling piggies take over.  We bedazzled air masks and colored our specially made t-shirts, munched on pigs in a blanket and hot dogs and pork and beans.. anything we could think of that fit the theme!

We decorated pig cookies (NOT a pork product, thank goodness!) and rented Charlottes Web and Babe, though I think the girls had more fun playing video games (correction: the Wii Wee Wee!) and with the balloons (never quite got that game to fit with a pun, but they were pink so it worked!).

In all, it was an incredibly fun day… though I won’t deny a few *squeals* of joy from the moms when we found out school was back in session today!

Image of the month: May

torioan30

This session had about a million pictures I could have chosen for image of the month, but I had to narrow it down! These two were the classic brother/sister combo… so sweet and loving for a few minutes, but just until they realized it… then it was back to cooties and tickles and giggles and whatnot.  I don’t have a clue what they were talking about here, and I think that’s why it is such a perfect sibling shot.. that pure, intense bond that just can’t be felt or understood by outsiders.. perfectly happy immersed in their own little world!

A few more to share.. runners up if you will… happy May!
