Back to School Friday Five!
The fastest summer ever is coming to a close, so one last Friday Five before the fall madness begins! I’m sprinkling this one with some pictures of an absolutely adorable family and their cute as a button little boy. Normally, you can’t call an 11 year old boy cute as a button and get away with it, but this one happens to be my nephew so I have free reign to pinch cheeks and make all the embarrassing comments I want! Hooray!
Not only are these just adorable stationary products, this is a local mom running a business with a VERY smart idea. She’ll hand write and mail the card for you! Birthdays, thank yous, whatever.. pick out a card and tell her the message and check it off your list. Bravo!
This is a movie review website that I absolutely live by. You get so much more than two thumbs here, actual specific descriptions of the movie so you can decide if your kids should watch it or not. We’ve all seen a PG movie that went a little far, or watched a PG-13 and wondered later where the bad parts were.. this site catalogs not just “offensive language” but as far as which words, or even “back talking to parents.” If the official listing says “mild nudity” they detail who and why and how it’s framed in the story, so you can really have a good idea beforehand if it’s okay for your family. The best part is that they have thousands of movies, so you can even look up older films if you decide to make it a Blockbuster nights!
As we polish off our new shoes and shiny lunchboxes, it’s important to remember that lots of kids in the US and across the globe aren’t able to afford even the simplest supplies. This is a GREAT organization that seeks to end that problem, or at least make a dent! They provide backpacks filled with school supplies to poor children here and abroad, through donations of supplies or money from people just like you and me! It’s a great lesson to start off the school year!
I’m sure we weren’t the only ones glued to the tv set when our hometown (okay, home metroplex) girl was winning the gold in Beijing, and now it’s time to welcome her home! The city of Parker, TX, is holding a congratulatory parade on Saturday, August 30th at 9am.. it’s sure to be a winner!
Happy last weekend of summer! Hope you have a wonderful first day of school next week!

Return of the Friday Five
Fail Blog
Ok this is a guaranteed time-waster, so please don’t click if you don’t have time to waste. And be warned, a few are a bit on the PG-13 side, so don’t click with kids.. but OMG these made me laugh out loud! Just a collection of pictures and sometimes video of occasions where someone failed.. an official sign with bad grammar, unfortunate translations from a foreign language, etc. Good stuff.
Bee Well Miles
Great concept made even greater! Designed for people training for Breast Cancer runs/walks (like the 3day this fall.. ahem) this site gives a donation for your training! Just log the miles you walk or run and a donation will be made to Breast Cancer research in return! There’s also some great fitness information and tips, so you might just spend even more time there!
Cake Wrecks
Another funny blog.. this one showcases very bad pastry creations.. often with a hilarious commentary. It’s the anti-Ace of Cakes (food network show if you don’t already tivo it.. so cool!)
Family Fun Back to School
I know I reference them a lot but they are geniuses in my world!
Family fun has done it again with an amazingly through back-to-school section.. everything from cool first day breakfasts and traditions you can start with your family to cool school crafts to get everyone excited!
Oliver’s Fine Foods
For anyone in the Arlington/Mansfield area, I’ve got your new favorite shop! Just opened this summer, Oliver’s Fine Foods is a family-owned shop with a completely unique yet utterly classic concept.. fresh meats, gourmet cheeses, premium wines and beers, all the great offerings of a high-end food boutique. But not only can you buy food there, you can taste it already put together by their fabulous chefs! They offer deli style sandwiches and salads, premade dinners (because who couldn’t use a little help every now and then?), and even catering! Best of all, it’s all made with high quality fresh ingredients, so you can rest assured that your family is getting the very best. Check them out and tell them I said hi… they are wonderful people with a wonderful product!
Beached
We’re back! It was a whirlwind week, with plenty of surf & sun for the whole family, and lots of visits from old (and new!) friends for sessions as well! We’ve got a lot to catch up on, so if you’ve called or emailed in the last week please know you are not being ignored.. I promise you will hear from us by the end of the week! Also coming soon is the announcement everyone is looking forward to.. holiday sessions! Almost time!!
For now, some of my highlights from the family stuff.. sneak peeks for clients to come!
p.s. email subscribers.. if you haven’t already figured it out, the images don’t come in the actual email anymore.. just click on the link at the top (usually the title of the post) to go directly to the blog and see everything!
Random playing in the sand…
Posing for mommy.. the one request I make each year, for a nice portrait on the beach.. they can wear whatever they want and do whatever they want the rest of the week if I can just have one. good. hour. And boy did I get it this year! The first image will probably be my next big wall canvas.. the next is what came next, when I suggested they run to me, expecting to get fun, splashing and laughing images, not expecting my sweet daughter to trip in an unseen hole in the ground! The series makes me giggle, and much to her chagrin I’m planning on hanging it up as well..
And after that they were already wet, so what could I say.. but go for it!
Enjoy your week, more to come soon!
