Thank you!!

Amidst the chaos of the holiday season, I am constantly reminded that I am so unbelievably lucky to do what I do. I love love love my job, and that’s partly to do with my love for photography, but also a huge part of it is that I have been blessed with the greatest clients!! And I’m sure I don’t say it enough… but thank you!

For the referrals of friends, the sweet emails, the water bottles you bring to our hot outdoor sessions (thanks again stacy!)… everything! Every session you guys remind me how much fun “work” can be! And if I had even begun to forget in my holiday blur… yesterday I was reminded with this:

Have you ever seen a more beautiful arrangement?? I’ve never been a huge flower girl but this is a delivery I could get used to! This heaping bowl of the most delicious fruit was a thank you present from a very sweet client… and here I thought I was the thankful one! :) And believe me, these pictures do not do it justice… the girls and I have been actively munching for two days now and have barely made a dent… and it’s all still ridiculously juicy and fresh! It was an amazingly gracious gesture.. I am still speechless over it but thought it deserved a public acknowledgment in addition to the stunned email I already sent… so Thanks Courtney!! :)

And thank you ALL for making me the luckiest (and happiest.. despite the lack of sleep, I swear I am happy!) photographer in the metroplex!

Blink

Just one blink, and your kiddos have grown right before my eyes!

This little family is a favorite of mine, if only because they grow the prettiest kids ever! :) I featured big sister last year when she was just a baby, and now barely a year later she’s got a baby brother nipping at her heels!

They are so close in age it makes my head spin… but luckily their mom has things under control!

And what of my sweet girl? She’s all grown up.. with some serious spunk!

Little Boys Blue

Guess who the star of this session was?

Our Blog Birthday Baby contest winner, Cameron!

Little Cam and his mommy, daddy, and big brother met me in Southlake for some urban adventures… and that sweet smile from his submission photo was out in full force!

Of course you can see where his good looks and charm come from… big brother of course!

It was a grand prize kind of morning.. now to pick the image for the home page.. dare I open the voting again? :) That makes both me AND Cameron tired just thinking about it!

Paitently waiting…

so many of you are!! Thank you so much for all of my wonderfully understanding clients, many of whom have been starting every sentence with “I know you’re really swamped right now…” because they’re right! So many of you out there are just twiddling your thumbs, anxious for a little peek at your pictures.. I hear you, I really do!

Just a few.. for all of my patient readers out there.. your full galleries are coming soon! And for those of you who don’t see yours here… they’re coming soon too, I swear! (Donations of diet coke and late night munchies currently being accepted to help speed up the process)

first this little family is one of my favorites.. this is our fifth session together and I swear they just get cuter every time!

This one I especially loved… it’s just the epitome of life as the baby of the family.. it’s all about you, whether they like it or not!

This session was in honor of the little guy’s first birthday… first at home then to the park for cake with friends… what a fun day! It was busy, but so worth it… his mommy sure knows how to put on a party!

And finally, this little girl was just a barrel of laughs! So expressive, so independent… what more can you ask for from a toddler? Oh yes, how about an infectious smile!

Okay.. that’s it for round one.. but don’t worry.. round two will be coming close behind!

Peace.

Today we say goodbye to an extraordinary woman.

I first met Sheri three years ago, when I was contacted by her friends to do a storybook session for Sheri and her family before she began chemo for breast cancer. Within an hour, I was hooked. Our day together was so fun, playful… her little girl just a ball of energy and the absolute apple of her mommy’s eye.

Over the next three years, I was lucky enough to photograph their family three more times, each time in awe of her strength as she rattled off doctor reports and tumor updates as if they were sports scores, all the while never losing her spark for life, especially with her husband and daughter.

My biggest fear with each session was not that the pictures would show how sick she was, but just that I wouldn’t be able to fully capture how alive she was.. more than anyone I’ve ever met I think… nothing phased her, nothing stressed her, her smile was an incandescent bulb that would never run out.

As that light radiated, her family responded tenfold. They were the fireflies at her light, fluttering eagerly about, wanting to please, to participate, happy just to be in her presences. As was I. When I am struggling to get out of bed in the morning I remember that last year she completed the 3-day Breast Cancer walk just days after chemo. When my kids are on my last nerve I remember how she so graciously let her little one be herself, whatever that meant at the time.

It was her inspiring story that led me to create the Mother’s Story program offering complimentary sessions for moms battling cancer, and she has never been far from my thoughts.

Earlier this week, Sheri lost her long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Her friends & family will gather today wearing pink in honor of her favorite cause, the one she worked tirelessly for despite her own weakening strength. They will remember the woman who will be hard to forget, say goodbye to a dear friend to many.

The only request Sheri had when we did the first storybook was to include this poem, which she had found in a book and carefully hand copied for me. Three years ago it was a pretty prayer. Today it is goodbye.

I said a prayer for you today

And know God must have heard-

I felt the answer in my heart

Although He spoke no word

I didn’t ask for wealth or fame.

I knew you wouldn’t mind,

I asked Him to send treasures

Of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that He’d be near you

At the start of each new day

To grant you health and blessings

And friends to share your way.

I asked for happiness for you

In all things great and small,

But it was for His loving care

That I prayed most of all.

Thank you, Sheri, for allowing me a glimpse in your life, a moment in your light. May you find some peace at last.

Out of my Element

What’s the easiest way to scare a mom of three girls?

Leave her alone with three boys! And not just any boys.. but boys at home, in THEIR element, playing & laughing and being, well, boys!

I think about a third of the proofs involve someone tackling someone else… it took me almost half an hour to figure out that it was normal boy behavior and would not, in fact, end with tears & lengthy discussions about hurt feelings (as would be the case at my house).

No, these boys were up for absolutely everything.. and I think that’s exactly what we did!

What amazed me the most was not how rough & tumble the boys could be, but rather how quickly they could turn it off too…. and instantly become so soft and sweet, quiet and reflective…

If only it lasted a *tiny* bit longer! :)

I will not deny we had fun… but boy oh boy was it exhausting!

Girls Gone Wild

Wow, what a weekend!

I had quite an interesting time, with too many stories to remember and way too many pictures I can’t wait to share.

For now, just this one… two of my favorite girls really letting loose.

Happy Monday to all my wild girls… hope you’re recovering ok!

On the cusp

Oh, the preteen years…

Last year this little girl was exactly that… a little girl in jeans and bare feet, chasing her brother around the park and wrestling in the grass. This year she’s a stunning glimpse of the young woman to come… I can only imagine what the next year will bring!

Great Genes

It always amazes me to have siblings with very different looks. My girls are all pretty similar in appearance but I know so much of it is just the luck of the gene pool.

What’s even more amazing is when they look very different but are both equally stunning. Such is the case with these two from yesterday… I am absolutely in love with their entire session… and their mom, for having the best fashion sense of any client I have ever had!! (More pics to come of the entire ensemble.. it is truly to die for!)

For now… these two

For a good time call…

Not that I’m going to write their number on a bathroom wall or compose an original song about them (867-5309 anyone?) but this family is always a guaranteed good time! This past weekend’s session was no exception… they were up for anything and delivered it all and then some!

A few of my favorites, none of which they have seen… here’s your peek!
