The Holiday Spirit

Thanks so much to everyone for the submissions to my little holiday contest.. it was so wonderful to hear from all of you, and so refreshing to hear the real spirit of the holidays still exists!

I’m including some of my favorites.. there were so many great ones to choose from! The first is also the winner of the drawing for a complimentary session and proof album.. so big congrats to you! I look forward to seeing your sweet girls soon!

All of the stress of getting everything perfect (or as close to perfect as our lives would ever allow!) for Christmas vanishes when the house fills with the sounds of cousins who we only see a few times each year, the smells of Mom’s apple pies and my aunt’s cornbread dressing, and the annual rehashing the same old stories that we’ve heard a million times yet still we sit to hear them one more time. It’s the new baby, the recent graduate who I swear was just a baby a few short years ago, and the love that we all have for one another. It’s the sense that we belong to each other. As a child, I couldn’t wait to open the gifts under the tree, but the true gift is the time we have together.

At the end of all the craziness is the bliss of sitting back with a cup of coffee on Christmas morning amid all of the shredded wrapping paper and bows, and watching the excited face of a little girl who knows she really did make Santa’s “nice” list because he brought her just what she wanted.

It’s our little slice of heaven on Earth.

On our sixth Christmas together, my true loves gave to me………….hope, wonder, wishes, and the true meaning of family. Cory and I love to watch our kids anticipate Christmas because we get to experience that light-hearted feeling we had as children all over again. Reese and Claire can\’t wait to make a cake for Jesus, have their Nanny spend the night Christmas Eve, bake cookies and candy, open presents, and of course, wait for Santa! My husband and I get to experience that innocence of childhood that makes Christmas so pure.

The holidays are like a breath of fresh air – a little break from the world and a welcomed return to the warm and familiar.

In our family, the holidays mean cookies with extra sprinkles, board games on a blanket in the living room, and snuggling together to watch old movies on the couch. Not any one specific tradition, just the guarantee of genuine quality time together to relax and enjoy each other and relish in our blessings.

Are you misty-eyed yet?? I told you they were great! :) A bit of official business now.. I am closed for business until January 8th. Phone and email messages will be answered based on urgency and availability. I’ve got more than a few projects I’m working on for next year, including some neat new products and blog activities, but mostly I just need to recover from the holiday rush! Until then… Happy New Year!

10 Lords a Leaping

This was one day I knew I had a photo for! We’ll have more from these boys in the new year as I catch up on posting…

For the meantime, the last contest of the holidays.. I’d love a little note from any of you about what the holidays mean to you and your family.. nothing complicated, just a sentence or two from the heart. I’ll pick one of the entries to win a full portrait session and complete set of proofs.. an $800 value!! The deadline for this one is midnight on Christmas Day, so you have some time to think it over and send it in… I’ll post my favorites the next day to share the warm & fuzzies with everyone! :)

Five Golden Rings

Posting every single day is hard! Forgive me, the weekend got away.. so I’m adding those prizes to today’s for one big day.. which is terribly appropriate, given that today is a special day at our house.. our five golden rings are for my sweet daughter’s fifth birthday, which is today. She is the middle child.. the wild child.. the “joy” in my peace/love/joy trilogy… both the thorn in my side and the light in my life all at the same time. I can only imagine what the next five years will bring! And, as the only blonde in our family (a fact she is extremely proud of) the GOLDen rings are even more fitting!

And so, as part of the 12 days celebration, our game today is to send me a picture of five things. Five cards, five candles, five dogs, whatever. Five of the same object (not necessarily identical) in one picture. The winner will receive $5 McDonald’s card (her favorite restaurant!), $5 Build a Bear Bucks (her favorite store!), $5 Krispy Kreme gift card (because she loves sprinkle donuts!), and a $5 Toys R Us card (a given!). Just email the picture by midnight tonight to be entered to win!

Thanks to all the contestants who have entered so far.. keep them coming!

Two Turtle Doves

On the second day of Christmas… I couldn’t decide if today should be about turtles or doves, so I picked the middle ground… chocolate! The winner will receive two boxes of Dove chocolate turtles.. yummy!

The contest for today is simple: Send me your best holiday cookie or treat receipe! I’ll draw from all the entries and pick a winner!

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

Okay so she isn’t exactly a partridge, but you’re going to have to allow me some artistic wiggle room on these.. like I said on Monday, this is the 12 days of Christmas.. Ann Beck style! ;)

Starting off the event with a bang, a quick & easy holiday movie trivia contest. Email me your submission at ann@annbeckphotography.com and all the entries with correct answers will be entered in a drawing for a $10 Blockbuster gift card. Know your movies and be rewarded with movies! :)

All entries must be received by 12 midnight tonight, a new game will start tomorrow (and every day until Christmas!) with new prizes too!

Hope you have fun playing along…and good luck!

1. In “It’s a Wonderful Life,” what was Mr. Potter’s first name?

2. Who was the voice of the Grinch in the original animated feature?

3. In “Home Alone,” where does the little boy’s family go on vacation without him?

4. What kind of tree was Charlie Brown told to get for the Christmas pageant before he purchased the little twig?

Christmas is coming!

And we couldn’t be more excited! To spice up the season, get ready for a special blog event… the Twelve Days of Christmas, Ann Beck style! Starting Wednesday, we’ll have all sorts of fun games & contests (with prizes!!) each day… leading up to the big day, with one BIG prize at the end! Be sure to put your jingle bells on and get ready for the fun!

And in the spirit of the holiday.. a very merry picture for you all today.. this is one of my absolute favorite clients, who is in the middle of her second “year in the life” storybook. For the winter session this year, I came to watch them decorate the tree, sip hot chocolate, and roast marshmallows on the back porch. I love the little things, and I love the clients who appreciate the value in commemorating them!

Doggone cute

Our girls got an early Christmas present yesterday… no assembly required, no batteries needed… just a big ball of fur and drool to love & adore! This guy came from the Lone Star Lab Rescue, a great organization. Anyone considering adding a pet to the family should check into a rescue group… there are so many great dogs out there just waiting for a good family! We were able to get a completely housebroken, vaccinated, spayed & trained 2 year old dog that is an instant member of the family.. instead of the hyper, high-needs puppy I was fearing!

The girls are obviously thrilled beyond belief… my oldest (the resident animal lover) was so excited she cried when he came home! Even the baby has found the big guy to be a nice pillow for watching Dora… he just fit right in perfectly!

Without further ado.. I am proud to introduce Hershey Beck.. middle name still under negotiation. ;)

The Thinker

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this little guy… just as sweet as can be, so quiet but curious.. one of those kids who just watches you and seems to make a mental note of everything you do, as if he’s planning on taking you apart just to put you back together again! (I grew up with an older brother who did exactly that to just about every electronic device in our home, so I recognize the look.. even at three years old!) Can’t wait to see him in 10 years!

Check out these leaves! We don’t get a ton of great foliage here in TX so I am always thrilled to find some evidence of fall! He was just as excited.. and begged Daddy to reach him up to touch them!

Birthday girl..

This little one makes turning one seem so much fun! Hmmm did not mean to rhyme that.. forgive my working into the wee hours for having turned my brain a bit loopy! ;) I’ll get straight to the photos.. and tomorrow we’ll see a few of her big brother & sister!

Happy Monday! :)
